Fantastic Friday

Segerstrom 3  Orange 0

Friday January 15th was the first time this season the Segerstrom soccer teams all recorded a victory on the same day.  The varsity team had a strong battle against a strong adversary in Orange who fought tough in the first half, literally physically bruising some resilient Jaguar players.  Segerstrom held firm and created many first half opportunities, but could not affect the scoring sheet.  Toward the end of the first half however, Edgar Hernandez took a well placed cross from forward Ray Estrada and placed it into the roof of the Panther goal for a well-deserved 1-0 half-time lead.  It was the first goal of the season for Hernandez who has come close on several other occasions.

Overtime at Ocean View

Segerstrom 1  Ocean View 1

The Segerstrom Jaguars started their league season with a disappointing tie against the Seahawks Wednesday afternoon. Despite Lisandro Orozco's 2 disallowed goals (offside & out of bounds), Ray Estrada hitting the post, Josh Cubillo's miss from close range, and Albert Acosta's multiple chances in a flurry during the first overtime, the Jaguars were only able to manage one goal. Scoring leader Ray Estrada followed up his own rebound off of the crossbar to muscle in the tying shot.

Cardiac Kids Strike Again

Segerstrom 2  Marina 2

The Segerstrom Boys Soccer team was feeling in "the giving mood" Wednesday afternoon at Jaguar stadium when they allowed the visiting Marina Vikings to take a 2-0 lead.  Despite several opportunities by Edgar Hernandez and Mario Hernandez in the first half, the Jaguars were unable to score past a staunch defense.  Toward the end of the opening frame the visitors scored their first goal from a header.

Soccer team gets into gear

Segerstrom 3  Trabuco Hills 0

The Segerstrom Boys Soccer team played closer to its potential Friday afternoon (12/11/09) in front of a hearty crowd who braved the rain and cold.  The hosts got off to a quick start behind Sophomore Josh Cubillo's goal in the second minute.  The Jaguars didn't look back as they sent a barrage of shots the Mustang keepers' way as he continually had to fend off the onslought of offensive attempts.

The Estrada Spectacular

Segerstrom 4  El Modena 4

Wednesday December 9th is a date soccer fans at Jaguar stadium will not soon forget.  The soccer team forced a 4-4 tie with visiting El Modena.  What the fans were buzzing about was not just the amazing comeback from a 1-4 deficit in the second half, but that all four goals were scored by Ray Estrada

A tale of two halves

Segerstrom 2  Corona Del Mar 4

It was a tale of two halves for the visiting Jaguars.  The Boys Soccer team traveled to Corona Del Mar Friday December 4th and were quickly given a lesson in quick starts by the host Sea Kings.  The home team scored three times in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the break. The Jaguar defense was easily overwhelmed by the home team and looked as though it was on the back foot for most of the half.

Boys Soccer opens with close loss to Godinez

Segerstrom 1  Godinez 2

It was a rough start to the season for the Segerstrom Jaguars Boys Soccer team as they hosted the Godinez Grizzlies at Jaguar stadium.  All looked good as Ray Estrada scored 7 minutes into the contest, and Segerstrom missed several close attempts soon after.  As the half came to a close however, Godinez' forwards began to apply pressure to the Jaguar defense resulting in a penalty kick converted by Fidel Nieves for the visitors, making the halftime score 1-1.

Soccer kicks off season

Segerstrom 1 JSerra 4

The Varsity Soccer team had a tough outing in a scrimmage against the JSerra Lions November 23rd at Jaguar stadium.  The visiting Lions scored two quick goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, both from high crosses into the center of the Jaguar defense.  One came from a throw-in, which was long enough to take the place of a corner kick.
